Grumpy Old Guy's JournalBobcat!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while.
Here are some pics of a bobcat I encountered in Northern California. I have some nice landscapes and bird shots coming soon too.

Time for a new computer
My seven year old laptop just can't keep up with Photoshop or Premiere anymore. I'm looking to invest in a real graphics powerhouse PC. I'm even thinking of going back to using a desktop PC for future expandability, and because I enjoy tinkering with computers. No Macs, this is a PC household. LOL!
Does anyone have a computer they're really in love with these days? Right now I'm leaning towards a Dell or Alienware with a superstrong graphics card and an I7 CPU.
Thanks!
Grumpy

The Geminid Meteor Shower
I drove two hundred miles and camped out all night in the Mojave Desert to capture these images of last week's Geminid Meteor Shower. The Geminids are known as one of the best celestial shows, and this one didn't disappoint. I had a difficult time deciding where to point my camera as the meteors were showing up all over the sky, about sixty per hour. My technique is to set my cameras to continually shoot images one after another, and then search them later to see what I captured. My exposure was :25 at F2.8, ISO 3200, 3200k color balance and a one second interval with ultrawide lenses. I had two full frame cameras going, a Canon 6dm2 and a Canon R5. Next year I plan to run a video camera as well. The location was the Alabama Hills in the Mojave Desert just below Mount Whitney and Lone Pine Peak.
Enjoy!

Ellen was a frequent contributor to the photography forum, often with photos of birds. I didn't see anything here so I am sharing a link from mnhtnbb in another forum. Another of her friends asked me to help let people know.

The Full Beaver Moon over L.A.
Sorry I haven't posted in a while.
This was the full Beaver moon over downtown through yesterday's haze.

***The Winners are up in GD!***
https://democraticunderground.com/100220592759Congrats to HAB911, urbanhermit and mnhtnbb for their winning photos, and to all who entered. All the entries were terrific, and the nine finalists were all stunning.
***DU PHOTO CONTEST: THE WINNERS***
It is with great pleasure that I announce the results of the August Photo Contest. Every month we comment on how wonderful the entries were, and this month was no exception. The theme for the August contest was "Water, Lakes, ocean, ponds, rain storms, flooding. No water sports though." All of the photos were terrific, and the nine finalists were stunning. Without further ado, here are the winners.
First place goes to HAB911 for their amazing close-up of a drop of water. Appropriately the title of the image is Water. This photo required skill, artistry and patience.

Second place goes to urbanhermit for their stunning landscape, Tranquil morning. The reflections on the still water, the early morning mist, the curving shoreline and the snow covered peaks all contribute to a beautiful image.

Mnhtnbb took third place with their beautiful seascape Surfs Up at Dawn. The sun is just peeking through the low clouds while the waves are pounding the beach and a flock of pelicans are gliding by. What a great moment.

Congratulations to the winners and all who entered, and thanks to all who took the time to vote.
***CONTEST FINALS ARE UP IN GENERAL DISCUSSION***
